Here’s how the Accumulate project started – with pots of jam. Home-made, of course. These are the Preserves with a Purpose – jam, marmalade and chutney made by young homeless people with fruit donated from the local community. The products are sold at Food and Craft Fairs, and they have directly lead to workshops in photography and film-making. Fruit that may have gone to waste is turned into something delicious that pays for creative activities for young people who are homeless.
Made By Us is the title for 2017’s Accumulate exhibition of photographs by young people who are homeless and living in hostels and who took part in this year’s Accumulate photography workshops. The exhibition is at The Guardian in King’s Cross and runs from 12th May until 3rd June '17 (10am – 6pm).
Accumul8 provide photography workshops at the North London YMCA, East London YMCA and Evolve Hostels. Taught by Ravensbourne College tutors and students, these provide a valuable opportunity for young people to leave their hostel, learn new skills, make friends and explore their creativity. They also increase self-confidence and a sense of personal value, helping young people make positive decisions in their lives and for their future.
