The Healing Blues

Social Practice artist Ted Efremoff started the project in Greensboro, NC, U.S. in 2014 with musician Dave Fox who produced both the albums. This project illustrates how the healing process of talking about and memorializing one’s struggle in living music can improve the lives of individuals and how broad community partnerships involving the arts, education, social services and philanthropy can address the needs of our most vulnerable communities.

"Never before in my forty five years living in the blues community has a project taken me as close to understanding what the blues is about as this one has."

Peter "Blewzzman" Lauro

The Healing Blues Project

The Healing Blues project has engaged homeless storytellers in collaboration with songwriters to create two music albums, The Healing Blues and The Healing Blues / Spoken Words. Homeless storytellers receive an honorarium for their stories and copyright on their collaborative songs. Over sixteen thousand dollars have been raised for the IRC (an innovative day center for people experiencing homelessness in Greensboro, NC) through the project.
